We have known Dr. Ananilea Nkya for a couple of years now as a person with high determination to develop the media sector, and promote gender equality in Tanzania. Being Chairperson of the Board, we have great expectations that she will lead the Board to strategically uplift TMF to higher performance in creating a viable media sector in Tanzania.
The Tanzania Media Foundation emerged from the successful implementation of the Tanzania Media Fund project, which operated from 2008 to 2014. The organisation transitioned into the foundation from 2015 on and has been registered as a national NGO since 2019. The organisation thus has a wealth of knowledge and networks from over a decade of media development work. Whereas previously grants were given to emerging Tanzanian media via the fund, the Tanzania Media Foundation has focused on increasing the professional capacity of media actors, viability of media houses and the quality, quantity and diversity of investigative and public interest journalism products in the media sector.
