With the recent trend of journalism without being accompanied by visual factual representation of the information, and even when data has been used, journalists have often misinterpreted or overlooked the importance of interpreting for the layman to understand. This training and mentorship programme will therefore aim at introducing journalists to basics and principles of data journalism to ensure accurate representation and interpretation of data to the audience, especially in the online sphere.
TMF is therefore desirous to engage a consultant to conduct a data journalism training to 10 online media journalists and offer a three day online mentorship to the journalists as they produce three data journalism stories/articles for online publication. The consultant will work with other consultants covering other related subjects – fact checking and multimedia storytelling to enable journalists to produce stories that capture elements from the three subject matters.
