TMF will not be offering any new grants in 2018. Due to this being the final year of implementing our 2015-2018 strategic plan, we will focus on finalising work with our eight Content with Transformation grantees and conducting reviews of all the other grants we offered since 2015. If you are a past grantee, contact us on This email address is being protected from spambots. It is with regret that we announce the resignation of Ernest Sungura, who has been TMF’s executive director since 2015 and before that led its precursor, the Tanzania Media Fund Project (TMF project).

Ernest pioneered our media transformation grant, which is based on the notion that you cannot talk about editorial independence without first ensuring financial independence. It was largely through his efforts while leading the TMF project that we worked with over 30 media outlets across the country to help them address structural constraints to quality media content production and almost all of them reported increased revenue generation!

The entire team at TMF is sad to see him go but we understand and support his decision to move on after spending almost 10 years with the organisation. He leaves TMF with a strong, capable and committed team that will continue to work to strengthen the media in Tanzania to promote accountability. We wish him great success!

The TMF Board of Directors has appointed TMF programme manager Fausta Musokwa to the role of interim executive director during the period when it will be working to identify Ernest's successor.
