About TMF

Tanzania Media Fund (TMF) is a new fund that seeks to promote independence and quality in media, with a particular focus on public interest and investigative journalism. TMF believes that independent media is the lifeblood of a free and democratic society.

To support quality journalism, we offer:

• A competitive grant-making facility for individuals and institutions involved in media production (print, television and radio), and
• A tailor-made learning facility for grantees that offers learning-by-doing resources, coaching, mentorship and networking opportunities.

Tanzania Media Fund is an initiative of a group of development partners in Tanzania. They include:

• Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC)
• UK's Department for International Development (DFID)
• The Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands (EKN)
• Irish Aid
• The Danish Embassy

About the Budget

TMF manages a three-year budget of $7.1 million USD. Operational costs represent approximately 20% of TMF’s total budget. The remaining 80% is earmarked for grants and educational outreach.

Each year an average of $2 million USD is available for grants.
