Tanzania Media Fund (TMF) is an innovative media fund that seeks to promote independence and quality in the Tanzania Media, with a particular focus on public interest and investigative journalism. TMF believes that independent media is the lifeblood of a free and democratic society.

To support quality journalism, we offer:

A competitive grant-making facility for individuals and institutions involved in media production (print, television and radio), and
A tailor-made learning facility for grantees that offers learning-by-doing resources, coaching, mentorship and networking opportunities.

Grantees share experiences on project implementation

ELEVEN institutional grantees met in Morogoro recently for a three-day workshop to share experiences and challenges on project implementation. The grantees are at different stages of execution of their projects funded by TMF.

In his opening remarks at Oasis Hotel, the Head of TMF, Ernest Sungura emphasized the need for submission of quality project reports that detail the implementation of the project objectives.

12 media outlets set for PAA

A total of 12 media outlets are lined up for ‘pre-award assessment’ (PAA) to be conducted by a TMF team, starting October 20, 2011. The TMF Head, Ernest Sungura, said 84 institutional grant proposals were received since January 2011 but were pending for review as TMF wrapped up its pilot phase in June 2011.

Kwanza Jamii – Iringa newspaper comes to scene

YET another weekly community newspaper has been launched in Iringa region with the spirit of promoting rural journalism and making local government more responsive and accountable. The newspaper is ‘Kwanza Jamii – Iringa’.
Launching the paper at Mwembetogwa grounds recently, the Iringa Regional Commissioner, Dr Christine Ishengoma, called on the region’s residents to use the newspaper as a forum to express their views and as a link for regional development.

Talent learning centre impresses editors

Members of the Tanzania Editors Forum (TEF) were recently impressed by the facilities and students’ enthusiasm at the Talent Learning Centre – a constituent of the Time School of Journalism in Dar es Salaam. The Secretary of TEF, Neville Meena, led a group of 12 editors on a familiarization tour of the Talent Learning Centre on October 20, 2011 with the objective of checking the quality of tertiary journalism training institutes and the facilities used.
