Grantees share experiences on project implementation
ELEVEN institutional grantees met in Morogoro recently for a three-day workshop to share experiences and challenges on project implementation. The grantees are at different stages of execution of their projects funded by TMF.
In his opening remarks at Oasis Hotel, the Head of TMF, Ernest Sungura emphasized the need for submission of quality project reports that detail the implementation of the project objectives.
He called on the grantees not to use TMF projects as part-time work but instead get immersed in the ventures in order to realize tangible results that contribute to changes in their respective communities.
“There are cases where institutions engage consultants to write project proposals for them and once they secure funds, they ditch the consultants. Resultantly, the institution fails to own the project throughout the implementation and, therefore, even the report submitted to TMF ends up being shoddy,” explained Sungura.
He said it was advisable for an institution to maintain the consultant who conceptualized the project to ensure successful execution of the project and eventual submission of a narrative report that meets the taste of TMF.
The Program Officer (Fellowship/Events and Contracts), Vicensia Fuko took through the grantees on the importance of contract compliance, explaining that project coordinators or managers were liable to the contracts they signed with TMF.
“It’s important that you read the contracts thoroughly and abide by them. Failure to honour the contracts leads an institution to be put in the TMF black file and possible legal measures would ensue. We wouldn’t like to reach that stage,” cautioned Vicensia.
A Business and Media Trainer from Corporate Training Group, Derek Murusuri explained on what entailed a quality project report and approaches to effective report writing.
Institutional grantees that attended the workshop included Jamii Forum, Time School of Journalism, Mambo Jambo, Kitulo FM, Journalists Environmental Association of Tanzania (JET), Victoria FM, Radio Sengerema, Sauti ya Injili, Uhuru FM, SUA Television and Ebony FM.
